International Practices

ACCM (UK) acknowledges that working with other Agencies is crucial in achieving it aims and gaols tackling health inequalities and harmful traditional practices. ACCM (UK) for its part link sin with private industry and other organisations to benefit our users and to meet our duties in protecting the environment.

Anglia Water

ACCM (UK) works closely with Anglia Water to improve the health and wellbeing of the community through our outreach work to empower communities on fluoride in water, saving water use and reduce or eliminate pipe blockages.

Our outreach work involves giving talks to the communities in most deprived Wards of Bedford where majority of problems occur including pipe blockades due to use of fat for food preparation which is then poured down the sink leading to blocked drain pipes.

In the last three years Anglia Water Outreach work involved delivering talks and distributing information on Change Over to Digital TV services. We also undertook similar work in Queens Park, Cauldwell and Goldington Wards in Bedford, delivering door to door information on Keep It Clear (pipe and drainage systems) and Keep Lead Out of water.

Anglia Water's Outreach work seeks to address environmental issues and also health issues. Keep it clear was about use of excessive oil that is then poured down the drainage systems causing smells, dirty water systems and environmental pollution but most of all high cholesterol and heart diseases amongst those who use such heavy artery clogging oils such as butter and ghee. Keep Lead out was to help improve the health of pregnant women and children including adults as lead has been shown to cause grow problems amongst children. These health concerns raised by Anglia Water in the named Wards are supported by the recent Bedfordshire Public Health Report on Health Inequalities in Bedfordshire.
